A quote promises 30 days of recording on a 1 TB drive. Does that add up?

A free checklist to compare 3 camera quotes and a 3-hour course so you understand CCTV before you buy.

Full HD kit, 4 MP IP system, 30 days of recording

Three camera quotes, three different things. One talks about resolution, another about days of recording, the third only about the kit price. If you don't know at what distance a camera can identify a face, or how many terabytes a month of recording takes up, you can't compare them.

The entry course teaches you to do those two calculations and to build the comparison table.

Who it is for

It is for you if:

  • you are putting cameras in your home or business and want to get the purchase right;
  • you have received CCTV quotes and don't know how to compare them;
  • you are a beginner and want the CCTV basics before studying installation.

It is not for you if:

  • you expect the course to make you an installer: it gives you the foundation, and installation takes hands-on practice;
  • you want the course to recommend a brand: the Academy does not name brands or suppliers;
  • you are looking for 24/7 monitoring with a control center or facial recognition: outside the scope of this course.

The path, from problem to Pro

Four steps: the checklist by email, what you can do before calling anyone, the entry course and Academy Pro.

1

Free checklist

Comparing 3 quotes: 8 items to put the proposals in the same table.

2

Ask before you buy

There is no CCTV tool on the site yet. In its place, the 8-item checklist.

3

Entry course

SE1 CCTV today: 6 lessons, 3 hours, available as a standalone course.

Academy Pro

All 23 courses and the private community for your field, with a monthly or annual subscription.

We don't have a CCTV tool yet. We have the checklist.

For electrical, HVAC and solar, the E-Nogueira site has free tools (in Portuguese). For electronic security, not yet. Until there is one, the checklist on this page does that job: you put the quotes side by side and redo the math for days of recording and pixels per meter at the critical point.

Questions about your own case? Academy Pro subscribers can ask in the Electronic security room of the private community.

Entry course: CCTV today

CCTV today: analog × IP, resolution, PoE and coverage design (SE1) · 6 short lessons · 3 hours · level 1 (fundamentals) · available as a standalone course or included in Academy Pro.

By the end, you will know how to:

  • choose between HD analog, IP or hybrid CCTV based on the existing cabling, the image and the price;
  • read a camera's datasheet and work out up to what distance it can identify a person;
  • position cameras at the right height, angle and lens, with no backlight or blind spots;
  • calculate storage in terabytes from the number of cameras, bitrate and days of recording;
  • put together the bill of materials: recorder, hard drive, PoE switch, cable, connectors and UPS;
  • compare three quotes by what is in writing, including secure remote access and an LGPD (Brazil's data protection law) notice.

The course closes with the coverage design for your own property: floor plan, camera table, storage calculation and bill of materials.

A standalone course is yours forever; the community and the app come with Academy Pro.

After SE1

  • SE2 IP cameras and NVR: cabling, recording and secure remote access (level 2)
  • SE3 Alarms and sensors: zones, installation and configuration without false alarms (level 2)
  • SE4 Electric fences and access control: safe, code-compliant installation (level 3)
  • SE5 Remote monitoring, integration and LGPD for video images (level 3)

Together with the entry course and TR1 (Quotes, proposals and client relationships: from site survey to recurring work), they make up the Electronic security track. All included in Academy Pro.

What backs up what you read here

  • Since 2014 E-Nogueira has been doing electrical, HVAC, solar energy and electronic security work in homes, shops and small farms around São João da Boa Vista, São Paulo, Brazil.
  • 33 Google reviews on E-Nogueira's Business Profile. They come from service customers, not students: the Academy is new and has no student testimonials yet. When it does, they will appear here.
  • Real job-site situations as the starting point of every lesson: the camera facing into the backlight at the gate, the drive too small for the promised days of recording, remote access left with the factory password.
  • Free tools on the site: BTU calculator, PMOC generator (PMOC is the Brazilian HVAC maintenance plan required by law for commercial buildings), the Criador de Projetos electrical design tool and the solar sizing tool. Open to anyone, no Academy sign-up needed.

Who writes the courses

Marcelo Nogueira Souza — electrotechnical technician · HVAC and refrigeration technician · E-Nogueira, São João da Boa Vista, São Paulo, Brazil, since 2014.

Every Academy course is written by him based on what he does on the job, with each standard cited and explained the first time it appears. The technical basis is Brazilian (ABNT standards, laws and regulations); the principles apply in any country, and the text points out when a rule is local.

The certificate is an E-Nogueira Academy completion certificate: it records the course hours and content. This is a non-degree course, it is not recognized by the MEC (Brazil's Ministry of Education) and it does not replace professional licensing.

Frequently asked questions

Clear your doubts about our courses

Will the course qualify me as a CCTV installer?
No. It teaches the fundamentals for choosing, sizing and comparing a system, and gives a foundation to those who want to get started. The electrical work follows NBR 5410 (Brazilian low-voltage installation standard, based on IEC 60364) and must be done by a licensed professional.
Do I need to buy anything to take the course?
No. The assignments use your own property, a tape measure, your phone and paper.
Does it apply to Wi-Fi cameras that record to a memory card?
Partly. Resolution, lens, position, backlight, Anatel certification (Brazil's telecom regulator) and LGPD apply to them too; the recorder, PoE switch and cabling do not.
Is there a certificate?
Yes, an E-Nogueira Academy completion certificate for 3 course hours. It does not replace professional licensing.
How do I get the checklist?
By email, a few minutes after you submit the form. The form does not create an Academy account: the members' area, the app and the private community are for Academy Pro subscribers. If it hasn't arrived within 10 minutes, check your Promotions tab or message us on WhatsApp at +55 (11) 92053-5225.
