What you will learn?

Calculate the current of a split from its nameplate and choose cable, breaker and RCD from the site calculator's table.
Run the circuit from the board to the point: conduit, cable, voltage drop, 20 A socket or direct connection.
Read the manufacturer's wiring diagram and connect supply and interconnection without swapping anything.
Earth the outdoor and indoor units and understand how PE and SPD protect the inverter board.
Solve the drain: slope, destination, trap, air gap and condensate pump with alarm.
Insulate, close with cable trunking and hand over with measurements and an electrical handover statement.

About this course

Most air-conditioner warranty calls don't come from the refrigerant: they come from the electrics and the water. A split plugged into the socket circuit, a breaker swapped "for a bigger one", reversed interconnection, no earth, an inverter board burned in the first storm, a drain dripping into the ceiling. In this course you learn to design and build the dedicated circuit for a split: current from the nameplate, cable cross-section, breaker and curve, RCD, voltage drop, 20 A socket or direct connection, conduit and PP cable. Then you learn to read the manufacturer's diagram, connect the outdoor and indoor units without error, earth them and protect against surges. Finally, finishing that doesn't come back: a drain with the right destination, condensate pump, insulation, cable trunking and a field electrical handover checklist with measurements. Each lesson has a worked example with numbers, a field checklist and a practical task. Prerequisite: CL1. Recommended: CL3 (split installation) and EL2 (distribution board).

Requirements

Have completed CL1 (capacity in BTU/h and choice of the appliance).
Recommended: CL3 (drilling, piping, vacuum and charge) and EL2 (breaker, RCD and SPD in the board).
Multimeter with resistance and AC voltage ranges, clamp meter and thermometer.
To carry out the work: basic knowledge of electricity and the ability to work with the circuit de-energized and absence of voltage confirmed. Board work, new circuits and connection are the job of a qualified and authorized professional (NR-10, the Brazilian electrical safety regulation).

FAQ

Not to understand it. To carry out the work, it is best to have completed CL3, which covers drilling, piping, vacuum and charge. Here we cover only the electrical part and the drain and trunking finishing.
No. The focus is the residential and small-commercial split, single-phase or two-phase, up to about 40 A. Large three-phase equipment and VRF systems need their own design and are only mentioned.
It is, if you want to know whether the installation you paid for is correct. The handover checklist in lesson 6 and the "explain it to a customer" questions show what to demand from the installer, without you touching anything energized.
No. It is a certificate of completion of a free course. Professional qualification follows the rules of your country and, in Brazil, NR-10 defines who may work on electrical installations.
The principle holds anywhere: design current, a cable that carries the current, protection that protects the cable, earth and RCD. The cross-sections, breaker ratings and socket types follow the local electrical code. NBR 5410:2004 (corrected version 2008) is derived from the IEC 60364 series.
